CHICAGO – In a heartwarming display of international goodwill and community collaboration, the Albanian American Community of Illinois (AACI) recently made headlines by donating a treasure trove of technology to the Kosovo Government’s Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation. This remarkable story of generosity and partnership began with a substantial donation from the East Aurora School District 131. AACI received around 800 smartboards, 800 projectors, and 600 soundbars, and in an incredible show of solidarity, they chose to pay it forward to benefit education across the Atlantic.

The catalyst for this heartwarming story was the generous donation of technological equipment from the East Aurora School District 131. The AACI was the fortunate recipient of approximately 800 smartboards, 800 projectors, and 600 soundbars, a donation that was not only a windfall for the organization but a turning point for their outreach.

The narrative of this generous endeavor was masterfully woven together by the current board of AACI and Artan Duraku, the Head of the Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo. Duraku’s deep commitment to fostering strong bonds between Albanian Americans and their homeland paved the way for this remarkable donation. His efforts acted as a bridge, connecting the AACI with the Kosovo Government and creating an opportunity for the equipment to find a new purpose thousands of miles away.

“The exemplary engagement of the Albanian-American Community of Illinois serves as a role model for our diaspora engagement in the United States. Gratitude is extended to the ACCI Board, whose project has not only contributed to the education system in Kosovo but has also introduced technology to facilitate children’s interaction with innovative learning tools. Collaborating with well-integrated young professionals, who are emerging leaders in both business and politics, was a highlight of my diplomatic tenure in Iowa”

Community Spirit in Action: AACI Volunteers Rise to the Occasion

The extraordinary journey of this tech bounty didn’t stop with the decision to donate. Current board members and numerous dedicated AACI volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help move, package, and prepare the equipment for its long journey to Kosovo. Their dedication and hard work demonstrated the power of a community united by a shared sense of purpose.

The exceptional efforts behind this endeavor were driven by Genc Arifi, a current AACI Board Member and the dedicated Representative of Kosovo. With keen insight and unwavering dedication, Genc not only uncovered the opportunity presented by the East Aurora School District 131’s generous donation but also saw it through to completion.

“This project demonstrates that our community is capable of achieving great things when we work together” says Genc. He also notes that “the Albanian-American community donated time, effort, and financial resources, the Kosova Consulate helped guide the project, and the Kosova government and Security Force will secure and distribute the equipment.  Every individual at each step was crucial in making the project a reality.  I am proud to have been part of such an immensely rewarding project and look forward to facilitating many others in the future.”

A Special Thanks to Business Leaders

Behind every great charitable act are individuals and organizations willing to lend a hand. In this case, a special thank you goes to business owners Gjaneto Harusha, President of Amazing Trucking and Logistics, Vullnet Dervishi, the CEO of iDeliverLogistics, and Ylli Karaqica, President of American Star Logistics. Their logistical expertise and support played a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of this valuable equipment.

In a world often dominated by headlines of division and discord, the story of the Albanian American Community of Illinois serves as a reminder that community spirit and international cooperation can transcend borders and create lasting positive impacts. AACI’s decision to share their newfound technological wealth with the Ministry of Education in Kosovo is a testament to the enduring bonds between people and the ability of ordinary individuals to make an extraordinary difference.
